Hi there,
Today’s Bloganuary post ist about my ways of communicating online.
I’ve got a bunch of ways I stay connected online: Slack, Discord, X, Texts.com, and good old email. I’m still logged in to a couple of IRC servers but haven’t had a serious interaction in months. Each of those tools and channels has its thing, but if I had to choose a single digital communication channel, it was email.
Email: Still the Champ
Here’s the deal with email – it’s like the Swiss Army knife of communication. Everyone’s got it, and it works everywhere. And it’s not just about sending words. Videos, voice notes, or group messages – email’s got it all. It’s funny how new messaging apps are just catching up to what email’s been doing forever.
What I like most about email is that it’s a universal channel and platform-independent.
Recently, I’ve been trying to free my email inbox from newsletters by moving these to Feedly (yes, you can subscribe to newsletters on Feedly!).
Texts.com: Bundling All the Personal Messaging
A couple of months ago, when Automattic acquired it, I started using Texts.com. My personal messaging is mostly on Signal and WhatsApp. It’s great to bundle these in a single app on my desktop. Connecting X DMs to this unified inbox gave private messaging via X another push for me.
Before using Texts, I hadn’t used a unified messaging app in years (remember Trillian?). Now, I feel much more organized and wouldn’t want to miss it. I highly recommend giving it a try!
