Embracing a Long, Healthy Life [Bloganuary – Day 8]

Hey there,

This is my Bloganuary post for day 8. Today is about my thoughts on living a very long life.

Just recently I read a couple of books about longevity.

Longevity is a topic that often crosses my mind, especially in an age where science continually pushes the boundaries of lifespan. But, I learned that living longer isn’t just about adding years to life; it’s about adding life to those years. That’s a concept Dr. Peter Attia explores in his book “Outlive.” He emphasizes that the goal isn’t just longevity but maintaining health and vitality for as long as possible.

I find this perspective refreshing and crucial. Imagine living to be a hundred but spending the last twenty years with diminished health and quality of life. That doesn’t sound appealing to me. Attia’s approach suggests that longevity should be accompanied by a life where we’re not just alive but living fully, engaging with our passions, and enjoying our relationships.

What intrigues me most is how this perspective shifts our focus from merely avoiding death to actively cultivating a life worth living. It’s about making those extra years count, staying physically and mentally fit, and continuing to contribute to the world around us. Isn’t that a more holistic and fulfilling approach to the concept of longevity?

In the end, what would you prefer? Merely adding years to your life, or truly living every moment of those added years?

Thank you for reading and see you on the next post!
