Yesterday’s Eurovision Song Contest 2025 brought together thousands of music fans, performers, and media from across Europe here in Basel. The entire city center has been transformed into a massive celebration of music and life over the past few days.
But Eurovision was just the beginning of this summer packed with international events and great vibes in Basel. Basel is not only an epicenter of football this year, now that FC Basel just won the Swiss Super League and we’re going to host the UEFA European Women’s Championship in July. Basel is also the spot for the open-source web community to meet: WordCamp Europe 2025 will take place here on June 5-7!
What is WordCamp Europe?
WordCamp Europe is the flagship WordPress event on the continent. It brings together developers, designers, content creators, and business owners who share one vision: Building for the web with open-source technology. WordPress powers more than 43% of the entire internet. This conference features expert talks, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities. For anyone working with WordPress, it’s the must-attend event of the year.
Basel: Where international events feel at home
Basel has a long history of hosting significant international gatherings. The city sits at the junction of Switzerland, Germany, and France, making it naturally international. This border location has shaped Basel into a conference and trade fair powerhouse.
Art Basel stands as the prime example. Starting June 19th, just two weeks after WordCamp Europe, this world-renowned art fair will transform the city into the global art market’s epicenter. The city’s walkable size, excellent public transport connections, rich culture, and experience in handling large events make it the perfect host.
And if you’re interested in exceptional food, you will find what you’re looking for in the world’s best restaurant.
Welcoming the WordPress community in Basel
I can’t wait to welcome friends from the WordPress community to Basel. Having this event in my backyard feels special.
If you’re coming to WordCamp Europe and are still looking for accommodation, restaurant recommendations, or sightseeing tips, reach out. I’d be happy to share the hidden spots most visitors miss.
Basel in early June offers perfect weather for exploring the old town, swimming in the Rhine, or taking day trips to the nearby Swiss Alps, German Black Forest, or French Alsace region.
One of the great things about WCEU is that with 50€, the event is affordable. This allows us to organize a truly inclusive event for the open-source community, and it is possible thanks to our amazing sponsors.
Now’s the time to get your tickets if you haven’t already!
See you in Basel this June!
